Being healthy sometimes feels like an immense goal, but it also sounds a lot like giving up the things you love. However, you can still be healthy and eat and do what you love. Here are a few ways you can be healthy on a daily basis while still being happy.

Do a Nightly Routine

Do the simple things: eat early meals, have a set time to go to bed every night, stop consuming caffeine after noon, and enjoy a relaxing evening activity. This can help fight insomnia and promote a well-rested feeling the next day. It's very tempting to not go to bed until your eyes can't stay open anymore, but a good night's sleep can make a huge difference.

Take Time for Yourself

Taking some alone time is a great way to build mental strength by spending time living in the present and learning to be happy with who you are. It's an opportunity to boost productivity for a period and just rest from the daily routine. Give yourself an at-home spa day. You can enjoy some homemade skincare treatments and masks or give yourself a hot rock massage. Drink some hot tea, put on calming music, and just bask in the enjoyable environment.

Learn Coping Mechanisms for Stress

Stress is a natural part of our lives, but it can be unhealthy when you don't know how to cope with it. Stretching, listening to gentle music, or focusing on the present are scientifically proven ways to reduce stress. The best part is that you can do them at nearly any point in the day. Find coping mechanisms that work best for you and keep working at them. Don't be afraid to say "no" to things that might stress you out even further.

Eat More Fruits and Veggies

Recent work by researchers at the Rush University Medical Center in Chicago suggests that eating a diet high in vegetables and fruits is associated with a decreased risk of depression. Eat plenty of vegetables with every meal. That said, you don't have to eat salad for every meal, but you can add some carrots or tomatoes to your lunch and dinner, for example. You don't have to give up the tasty stuff, but try to eat more fruits and vegetables.

Move Regularly

Research has shown that exercising and moving regularly can promote a fat-burning anti-inflammatory response, which is also good for your brain. For every half-hour you sit, take a five-minute walking break. Find ways to move more. If walking isn't challenging enough, do some push-ups or squats. The more you move, the healthier you are.

Learn Something New

One of the biggest things that prevents adults from being more engaged and successful learners is the fear of looking dumb if they make a mistake. The secret is putting yourself in an environment where there is motivation to succeed and a low fear of failure, and it's easy when you're learning something you find fascinating and fun.

Make New Friends

Adulthood and its accompanying responsibilities and priorities can make it difficult to keep up with friends or forge new friendships, but the profound benefits make it worth the effort. You can make new friends if you try something new, such as going to a new gym or learning kickboxing.

Take Six Minutes to Read for Fun

Don't have time to read? What if you took just six minutes? At the University of Sussex, researchers found that reading for just six minutes could lower heart rate, ease muscle tension, and reduce stress by 68 percent. Now that's compelling.

Living a healthy life on the daily is attainable and enjoyable. Learn how to do more of the good stuff: eating more fruits and vegetables, get to sleep on time, or even read for just six minutes. The more you work on it, the easier it becomes and the healthier you'll be.
