The documentary film, Left by the Ship, will be shown on October 22, 2017 at 3 PM in the Cultural Center of Pearl S. Buck International, located at 520 Show More...Dublin Road in Perkasie, PA. The movie will be followed by a speaker and group discussion. Left by the Ship was created by the award-winning Italian documentary filmmaker, Alberto Vendemmiati, and the Italian-American filmmaker, Emma Rossi-Landi. It premiered in 2012.
Left by the Ship ties in with the exhibit, The Forgotten Americans, currently on view in the Welcome Center Exhibit Gallery at Pearl S. Buck International. Both the exhibit and the film highlight the plight of Amerasians in the Philippines, who have faced discrimination, ridicule, and sometimes abandonment because of their mixed parentage. These individuals have been stigmatized by the slur, "Iniwan ng Barko" ("left by the ship"). This documentary asks the question, "What does the future hold for these forgotten children of the post-war world?"
Admission to the film is complimentary but registration is required. To register please go to www.pearlsbuck.org/publicprograms. Donations to support the important intercultural and humanitarian work of Pearl S. Buck International are welcome and can be made either at the event or online at www.pearlsbuck.org/givenow.

He was also well known for his work in stained glass. In addition to a significant investigation of Sotter's nocturnal landscapes, Light and Shadow will present the various other types of landscape he produced throughout his career, and will introduce his work as a stained-glass artist, and examine the artistic exchange between the media in which he worked. September 4th- October 27th
Artist reception- September 15th 6-9pm
Artist appreciation and interpretations of our awe-inspiring surroundings, both Show More...natural and man-made. The landscape as a subject for painters has been long standing favorite. For some it is the engaging experience on being surrounded by their muse, for others it is a longing for a distant place while diligently working in a controlled space. Paintings of the space we inhabit and have yet to visit speak volumes to the relationship we have with the greater world, it's humbling while intimate. We are part of something synergistic, a cycle, a constant change. Part of the greatness of capturing a scene is that it is eternally secured, now a moment in time encapsulated and celebrated for others to enjoy beyond that which happened just once. This collection of works give a not only an appreciation for the skill and talents of the artists but an opportunity for the viewers to look through a unique lens at something glorious and yet often taken for granted.
