The exhibition will begin with an exploration of Sheeler's early period of experimentation: photographs of the Worthington House and modern sculpture, early portraits, and his 1920 film collaboration with Paul Strand, Manhatta. The core of Charles Sheeler: Fashion, Photography, and Sculptural Form, however, are the 85 portraits and fashion photographs on loan from the Condé Nast archives in New York. These photographs embody all ...READ MORE the glamour of the Jazz Age-beautiful starlets in fantastic gowns and fabulous jewels, models wearing the latest in couture designs, Ziegfeld Follies dancers, and stage actors featured in the latest Broadway sensation. A number of these photographs will be included in staged, multi-media vignettes incorporating period costumes, additional photographs, and paintings on loan from The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Yale University Art Gallery, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Columbus Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Gaston Lachaise Foundation, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Additionally, visitors will see for the first time Sheeler's own textile designs, which he produced in the early 1930s. The Historical Society of Montgomery County is pleased to announce a new exhibition in its gallery that will run from February 21, 2017, to April 29, 2017. "Norristown Remembered" will feature Frank Batson's paintings of Norristown and the surrounding region. A Norristown native, Frank Batson has been interested in art nearly all of his life. Batson graduated from Norristown High School in 1954, and many of his paintings ...READ MORE are inspired by his memories of Norristown and the surrounding area from the 1940s, '50s, and '60s. Some of the buildings and places still remain. Other scenes are long gone, but Batson's paintings bring these places back to life. Batson, now a resident of Worcester, paints from both photographs and personal memory to bring back these views of Montgomery County with remarkable accuracy. A stele (stone tablet) commemorates the construction of a synagogue there in 1163, but by the 1850s there were only remnants of the building standing and most families had assimilated. Part of the exhibit at Pearl S. Buck International is a retelling, through words and photos, of one Jewish family's flight from Nazi Germany into China. Packed in the luggage was a copy of "The Good Earth" which descendants presume was carried so far in order to become part of a lending library established during their stay in China. The Historical Society of Montgomery County is pleased to announce a new exhibition in its gallery that will run from February 21, 2017, to April 29, 2017. "Norristown Remembered" will feature Frank Batson's paintings of Norristown and the surrounding region. A Norristown native, Frank Batson has been interested in art for nearly all of his life. Batson graduated in 1954 from Norristown High School and many of his paintings ...READ MORE are inspired by his memories of Norristown and the surrounding area from the 1940s, '50s, and '60s. Some of the buildings and places still remain. Other scenes are long gone, but Batson's paintings bring these places back to life. Batson, now a resident of Worcester, paints from both photographs and personal memory to bring back these views of Montgomery County with remarkable accuracy. The exhibit is open during our normal hours of operation and is free and open to the public.
